Eleanor Sams studies ribosome biogenesis in hematopoiesis. Her retreat presentation focused on differential regulation of ribosomal RNA transcription between hematopoietic cell types.
Awarded an ASH Abstract Achievement Award in December 2024
Eleanor is a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania in the Cell and Molecular Biology– Genetics & Epigenetics program (CAMB G&E). Eleanor graduated from WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis in 2022 with a major in Biology and a minor in Anthropology. At Penn,Eleanor’s project focuses on investigating the relationship between ribosomal RNAtranscription, ribosome biogenesis, and hematopoietic cell identity. Through this project,Eleanor hopes to identify how rRNA transcription supports distinct cell states. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to apply these concepts to improve understanding and treatmentof dysregulated hematopoiesis, including acute myeloid leukemia, as well as additionalcontexts beyond hematopoiesis.
